West Bountiful

I am Jenn Nielsen and having grown up in Woods Cross and now living in West Bountiful since 2005, I love that my zip code has always been 84087. My husband, Jason and I moved to West Bountiful when our oldest child was five years old. We have thoroughly enjoyed raising our children Bryan, Madison, Emily, and Kennedy in this community. We recently added a son-in-law, Tyler, to our family.

Jenn’s Pledge

Our family has participated in the Davis County 4-H Livestock and Horse programs. I have participated in educating children and teens in gaining skills to provide a sustainable agricultural environment despite urbanization.

The 4-H motto is “I pledge: My Head to clearer thinking, My Heart to greater loyalty, My Hands to larger service and My Health to better living for my club, my community, my country, and my world.”

This motto stirs similar feelings and emotions in me regarding my service as a potential West Bountiful city council member.
I pledge:
My Head to clearer thinking (being logical and solution-oriented)
My Heart to greater loyalty (for all the citizens residing in West Bountiful)
My Hands to larger service (through recognizing and fulfilling needs of the citizens of West Bountiful)
My Health to better living for my club (family and neighborhood), my community, my country, and my world.

I ask for your vote so I can represent you as a West Bountiful City council member.

Education

As a graduate in child and family studies from Weber State University, I have spent my professional life in education. Through owning my own preschool for twenty years and working for the Davis County School District, I have worked with thousands of students in various capacities since 1994. I have also spent many years serving the students of our city through PTA and Community Council. I am currently chair of Viewmont High’s Community Council, and have also been Community Council chair at both West Bountiful Elementary and Bountiful Junior High. I served as PTA President at West Bountiful Elementary from 2014-2016. I am passionate about creating a healthy, positive environment for all students, providing critical supplies for teachers and staff, supporting all individuals who work tirelessly to educate our children and listen/learn from community members. It has been a blessing to have made many of my dearest friends through our common engagements in these organizations.

Parks & Recreation

As our city continues to grow, providing parks and areas for recreation is a priceless treasure we must provide the citizens of West Bountiful. Proper planning and development of playgrounds, fields, and trails provides families the opportunities to strengthen and cultivate relationships with family members, friends and community members. I would like to preserve and create areas meant for recreational development.

Fiscal Responsibility

Fiscal responsibility is the cornerstone of community development. Continuing our city's great tradition of fiscal responsibility while maintaining current infrastructure and planning for future growth is critical. Proper planning of the budget as our city grows will expand opportunities for children and families. I led efforts of fiscal responsibility while serving as a PTA president. I was able to use savings account monies to purchase twenty-five student laptops while maintaining fifty percent of the budget's rainy-day savings account, and was able to restore the savings account back to its original amount through community outreach donations. I pledge to use my experience in stewardship over public funds to maintain a balanced budget, promote fiscal responsibility, and support critical city functions.

Land Use

I am passionate about agriculture and preserving the rural feel of our community. As our city grows and develops, it is imperative we maintain a healthy balance in every new subdivision while maintaining the agricultural feel of our city. As a 4-H club leader, I have grown to deeply appreciate the agriculture cycle: where our gardens meet the animals on the farm which all support a healthy human lifestyle. Preserving land for the use of agriculture is critical to our way of life and teaching younger generations is a vital necessity. All while respecting the inevitable growth throughout the city.
